Funny things kids say

I was teaching preschool this morning. The kids were just getting there and playing and talking. They sometimes say the funnies things. I have a girl in my class from Viet Nam and the kids somehow got it in their heads she was from China and started talking about China. I heard one little girls say "China is the place you eat at" That got me tickled. Another little boy told me that Godzilla was raised in China. Sometimes I just enjoy listening to their conversations with each other and let them talk for awhile. It puts a smile on my face

70%

Well, Shayne has struggled a little this week getting 70% of his work done. He's been so close for 2 days at 67% but still had to stay after. I felt so sorry for him. The good news is today he did 71% and was very happy to come home on time. Even earlier than riding the bus because I picked him up. He's a little nervous about trying to reach 70% but I know he's capable. He's done it before, even in the 90's. So now he's hanging out with a buddy up the street til I call him home to do homework (another battle). Please say a little prayer for Shayne that he'll stay on task, get that work done and do better than 70% of his work. He's really trying.

Before and After

Shayne's hair before his buzz cut. It was so thick and needed to be cut every 3 weeks but we'd hold out as long as we could. I had to battle him to get it cut. Since he was going to a pool party last Saturday he decided he was ready for Jeff to buzz it so it would dry fast. We were thrilled.
He's seems so grown up now. He's definately not my little boy anymore but I think he will always be a Momma's boy. I'll be happy if that's the case.

Shayne's 11th Bday Party

We had Shayne's party tonight with Jeff's family. He got lots of different Lego sets. He is growing up. He wanted to put the candles on by himself, light them and then cut the cake by himself. Since the cake was a DQ cake it was really too hard for him but he tried with Dad's help. He said it'll take him a few weeks to get those legos all put together. You'll also notice that in the pictures Shayne's hair is much shorter. Last Friday he decided he was ready for a buzz cut.

Meeting about Shayne

I had a meeting today with his teacher, principal, resource teacher, counselour and him. We talked about his progress. I was actually wrong. He only had detention 3 days out of 14. He was so grown up while the resource teacher was talking to him and telling him he'd been doing great. Then she asked him what he thought we should raise his goal to. He thought about it for awhile and then decided on 70% of his work done. They all thought that was reasonable and a wonderful answer. I thought it was too high but they said it was achievable. So...I was worried about him all day and didn't need to be because he completed 93% of his work. Rock on Shayne!! Now we have a relaxing 4 day weekend ahead of us and don't have to worry about school until Tuesday. Yeah!!

Playing Catch Up

I feel like I don't have much to write about. We've been going through the motions of life and I feel like we've been pretty busy. Jeff and I are taking a class called Dynamic Marriage and we both have homework everynight so that takes time but I'm enjoying it. I think it will totally be worth it all. I've been working extra hours at the bookstore and still doing preschool so this week I won't get a day off during the week or Saturday either. We're having Shayne's bday party with Jeff's family on Saturday and since I have to work Jeff will be taking control of cleaning and getting everything ready. He's already got a jump start and is doing a great job!!

This is my excitement for the week.....many of you know that Shayne struggles with school. He hates it and doesn't want to do his work. We implemented a new system right before Christmas and he is expected to do at least 55% of his work or he stays after for an hour to work on it. Well, I think he's had 4 days out of the 14 days so far.. Here's the good part...yesterday he did 74% of his work and we were soooo happy. Today was even better 92%!!!!!!!!!! He was so cute when he told me. We were outside and he said he needed to hold onto me so I wouldn't fall over when he told me so he wrapped his arms around my waist and looked up with a smile and said 92!!! The best part is he is excited about it and seems to be getting a desire to work harder to achieve the goal. We have another meeting in the morning and his goal will probably be raised some. I'm just hoping not too much. So anyway, we are very proud of him!!

I'll post pictures after his party.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Can't believe 2008 is here already. Shayne is half way done with 5th grade. WOW!! He actually goes back to school in the morning, which he is NOT happy about.

We had a great christmas. It seemed busy but relaxed and not stressful. We went to a lot of places but we didn't have to rush at each place. Christmas Eve was with Jeff's parents and his siblings. Shayne got new legos which he put together almost immediately. Christmas morning we had brunch with my family and then that evening headed to Granite City to spend it with Jeff's grandmother and the huge Horton Clan. Lots of people in Grandma's small house. But it's always fun to see everyone.

Shayne got a pellet gun from Santa which I shot with my eye too close to the scope and now have a bruised eyelid. Maybe I'll let Jeff take my picture and put it on here. My sister thinks I need to do a scrapbook page about it. I was just showing him how he didn't have to be nervous b/c Jeff said the gun had "absolutely no kick". Well, it did and I have proof. It actually cut my eyebrow and I bled some and now I'm bruised. Shayne did eventually shoot the gun. I felt like I'd been in a scene from Christmas Story and Shot my eye out!! I can laugh now but I was mad when it happened.

Happy 2008 to everyone. God blessings for a healthy and wonderful year!!
